Star Ferry to launch TST - Disneyland route
- Written by arounddb, 17 November 2016
Star Ferry has announced that it is launching a brand new route from Tsim Sha Tsui to Hong Kong Disneyland, utilising a retired ferry that has been completely renovated for the purpose.
Sailings on the "World Star", originally retired from service in 2011, will cost around HK$180. The ferry will depart from the Star Ferry Pier at Tsim Sha Tsui in the mornings and will return in the afternoon, passing by popular Hong Kong landmarks on the way, including the Tsing Ma Bridge and the Kwai Chung container terminals. The journey will take around 45 minutes each way and will cater for a maximum of 180 passengers.
In the evenings, the ferry will be used for tours of Victoria Harbour while the "Symphony of Lights" show is underway. The World Star may also be available for corporate and private hire in the future.
As well as plush new sofas and decor, the World Star has been fitted with a new diesel-electric engine in order to reduce pollution and increase power. Although the chimney stack is not required for the operation of the new engine, it will be retained in order to preserve the iconic design of the Star Ferry.
The new route is expected to launch in the next few weeks.
