As winds start to pick up across the city, the Hong Kong Observatory has announced that the T8 signal is likely to remain in force for most of.
Schools and government services were suspended this morning as typhoon Haima continued its track northwest across the South China Sea.
According to the present forecast track, the storm will be closest to Hong Kong around midday.
Members of the public are urged to stay away from shorelines and take precautions to secure property and belongings.
Flight services in and out of Hong Kong are facing disruption as a result of the storm, with many flights already cancelled or delayed. Passengers are advised to check the latest information online before leaving for the airport.
Cathay Pacific has announced that it will waive fees on re-booking of all tickets issued worldwide (irrespective of fare type) on or before 19 October for flights involving Hong Kong between 21 and 22 October (Hong Kong time).
