Police arrest man wielding meat cleaver in Lan Kwai Fong

A 37-year-old man was arrested in Lan Kwai Fong on Thursday evening after threatening members of the public with a meat cleaver.

The man, who was believed to be drunk at the time, stole the knife from Yung Kee restaurant on Wellington Street at around 10pm. A staff member tried to stop him was but was allegedly threatened.

Police found the man wielding the knife on D'Aguilar Street, where he reportedly told them that he wanted to "chop somebody."

At least two officers drew their guns after the man refused to put the knife down, however no shots were fired. Police eventually managed to distract the man and grab the cleaver, before restraining him.

Three police officers and a male passer-by sustained minor injuries in the incident and were taken to Queen Mary Hospital for treatment.
