17 Hong Kong tourists injured in bus crash in mainland China

17 Hong Kong tourists were injured yesterday after their tour bus crashed on a highway in Guangdong province.

The bus, carrying 44 passengers, was travelling from Shenzhen to the Chaoshan when it crashed into the coach in front of it at approximately 2pm. The tour guide was reportedly thrown form the vehicle by the impact.

Seven of the injured remain in hospital this afternoon, with one of the tourists reportedly needing his leg amputated. Those without serious injury have now returned to Hong Kong.

The Hong Kong Immigration department has said that it is following up on the incident and has sent officers to Guangdong to provide assistance.
