Three-year-old Hong Kong boy killed in car crash while on holiday in Japan

A three-year-old boy from Hong Kong has died in a car crash while on holiday with his family in Hokkaido, Japan.

The family was on their way to Asahikawa, to the north of Hokkaido, when their rental car crashed into a lamppost about 40 minutes into their drive from Sapporo. The accident happened on a national highway in Iwamizawa at 11:50am yesterday.

The family was taken to a nearby hospital, where the boy’s father was treated for an arm fracture and his mother and two-year-old brother for minor injuries. The three-year-old boy died at the hospital.

Japanese police are still investigating the crash. Immigration officers from Hong Kong were dispatched earlier this morning to meet and support the family.
