Paddle for a purpose
- Written by arounddb, 15 June 2016
On June 19, three outrigger paddlers from Hong Kong Outrigger Canoe Club and Pure Ocean Connection are set to circumnavigate Lantau island to raise money for three ocean-based Hong Kong charities.
Starting and finishing in Discovery Bay, Katerina Vichou, Katherine Lynch and Shu Pu will battle against the waves to paddle 70km in solo and double canoes.
A crowdfunding page has been set up for people to donate money and a fundraising target of HK$60,000 has been set. 100% of the funds raised will be equally split between the following three charities:
- Sailability Hong Kong - based at Hebe Haven Yacht Club, the charity provides sailing and other water-based activities for Hong Kong’s disabled community.
- Splash Hong Kong - Splash conducts free learn-to-swim and water safety courses for targeted communities who may not have access or financial resources for swim lessons.
- Plastic Free Seas - a Hong Kong-based environmental charity dedicated to advocating change in the way we all view and use plastics in society today, through education and action campaigns.
