The heat is on

It's a very hot day and the Hong Kong Observatory, has issued the "Very Hot Weather Warning". At noon, the air temperature was 33 degrees Celsius, with a humidity level of 68%.

According to the Weather Underground app., "the air temperature is 33 degrees but feels like 43 degrees outside". To get to that number, they use an algorithm that computes temperature, cloud cover, humidity, chance of precipitation, and dew point. But be prepared! the temperature is rising and will reach a peak between 1 and 2pm today.

If you are planning outdoor activities, bring sun block and lots of water!

The HK Observatory warns of the following:
The risk of heatstroke is high. When engaged in outdoor work or activities, drink plenty of water and avoid over exertion. If not feeling well, take a rest in the shade or cooler place as soon as possible. People staying indoors without air-conditioning should keep windows open as much as possible to ensure that there is adequate ventilation. Avoid prolonged exposure under sunlight. Loose clothing, suitable hats and UV-blocking sunglasses can reduce the chance of sunburn by solar ultraviolet radiation.

Swimmers and those taking part in outdoor activities should use a sunscreen lotion of SPF 15 or above, and should re-apply it frequently. Beware of health and wellbeing of elderly or persons with chronic medical conditions. If you know of them, call or visit them occasionally to check if they need any assistance.

The HK Observatory forecasts very hot temperatures for the next couple of days, with showers and thunderstorms early next week.
