Toddler narrowly escapes abduction in Yuen Long

Local police are searching for a middle-aged woman tagged as the primary suspect in a child abduction attempt on April 16, Saturday.

The would-be victim was an 18-month old girl, who was walking with her mother on Hong King Street, Yuen Long when the suspect suddenly grabbed the child from behind to take her away.

The 25-year-old mother reportedly struck the suspect with an umbrella, who was attempting to flee. Two construction workers who happened to be nearby helped restrain the suspect. The mother promptly left the scene after retrieving her daughter, while the suspect got away under unclear circumstances.

Police were not notified until the following day, when the mother filed a report. The toddler suffered minor scratches on her shoulder during the ordeal.

No other cases of abduction have been reported in the area. Yuen Long authorities have since been investigating the case. The suspect is described to be 1.6 metres tall, heavyset, with long curly hair, and around 40 to 50 years old. At the time of the incident, she wore a ponytail, a pink-coloured top and dark-coloured trousers.
