BREAKING: Body of missing retired judge found off rocks on South Lantau

South Lantau resident John Rhind went missing on Tuesday after hiking at night around Lantau. Police officers have now confirmed that the body recovered yesterday morning near Shui Hau Village is that of John Rhind.

Police officers explain that it won't be easy to access the area on foot. “Where [the body] is, it will take some time to reach him,” Police said.

Since Tuesday, Lantau South Police have looked for Rhind by air, land and sea, even calling on Lantau residents to bring forward any information that could help find the retired Lantau judge.

Rhind’s daughter, Helen who is a solicitor based in Singapore flew to Hong Kong last week to be with her mother Nancy, 91, while the search for her missing Dad was ongoing.

As reported by SCMP, she said she and her mother Nancy, 91, were devastated by the news. “We had been hoping for the best but fearing the worst”.

Helen said she could not thank the local community enough for their efforts to find her Dad. “My mother and I would like to say a massive thanks to everyone on Lantau and all across Hong Kong, and especially the police, for their help in looking for my father,” she said.

“It has made such a difference to mum and me at this dreadful time, knowing everyone was out searching. A very big thank you,” she added.
Helen respectfully asks that their privacy be respected at this time.
