Did it snow last weekend?

Hong Kong netizens are thrilled and baffled by a video that surfaced on Facebook last Saturday. The 14-second clip, which was reportedly shot at Fanling, in the New Territories, shows what appears to be snowflakes.

The Hong Kong Observatory has expressed doubts over the authenticity of the video, having downplayed the probability of snow falling during the weekend's cold spell.

Parts of Lantau Island experienced temperatures as low as 3 degrees Celsius on Sunday, January 24. Residents have shared photographs of frost in several areas around town. Kindergarten and primary school classes had been suspended due to the cold weather, a record low in 60 years.

The intense cold surge is set to end by Wednesday, January 27, followed by a cloudy week with chances of rain and thunderstorms.
