Truck on fire as it sped through the Eastern Harbour Tunnel

According to Apple Daily, the truck's driver was transporting wood and other construction waste from Wong Tai Sin to Chai Wan. While passing the Eastern Harbour tunnel, he saw the heavy smoke in his rear view mirror.

The driver, a 51-year old man named Leung, sped through the tunnel and pulled a few metres away from the tunnel's entrance in Quarry Bay.

He then called the Fire Department and within minutes, the flames were put out by fire fighters; nobody was injured. However, this incident caused chaos and shock among other drivers passing by. According to the police, waste from contruction and renovation contains volatile and flammable liquids. Some suggest that a cigarette may have ignited the fire.
