A 64-year-old woman has been fined after being found guilty of stealing a Cathay Pacific life jacket from a flight this week.
The Apple Daily reported the woman appeared in court this week and told the magistrate she had mistakenly thought the life jackets were souvenirs.
The woman, from the mainland, had been flying from Taipei to Xi'an via Hong Kong.
The magistrate said the woman was "greedy" and that he deemed the theft serious not due to the monetary value of the jacket but because the absence of a life jacket on a plane endangered passenger safety.
The magistrate fined the woman $2000.
