Diwali celebrations on Lantau

Lantau's Indian community is in the throes of celebrating the annual Diwali Festival.
The festival, which marks the Lunar New Year, is India's biggest and most important holiday of the year.
Diwali means rows of lighted lamps and is also known as the Festival of Lights. The festival spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness.
Dr Sandeep Jain, a DB resident of five years, said Diwali celebrations were in full swing, with tomorrow night the key date in this year's Diwali calendar.
Likening it to Chinese New Year, he said families gathered together to give and receive gifts of sweets, with children lighting sparklers and adults playing cards.
Similar to Chinese New Year, many people clean their homes and buy new clothes.
Dr Jain, who works at Bayside Dental, said there were also Diwali balls in Hong Kong, with one in Tung Chung later this month.
Some local schools mark the festival, with Discovery Bay International School celebrating on Friday.
