Police and City Management have arrested a further two suspects in relation to major burglaries in Discovery Bay earlier this year.
Dr Francis Chiu, Discovery Bay City Owners' Committee Security Liaison Group convenor, revealed in an email this week that police arrested two suspects trying to board the ferry on Monday.
Dr Chiu said one of the arrested men is believed to be related to one of the burglaries earlier this year.
A robbery on Seabee Lane made headlines when thieves stole HK$10M in jewellery and cash.
In his email, Dr Chiu said:
Two suspects arrested by police
The cooperation between the police, the security company and the City Management security team has paid off again. On Monday 14 September (Monday), the police arrested 2 suspects (from mainland China) while they were trying to board the ferry. At least one of the arrested is believed to be related to one of the burglaries earlier this year. Although they did not commit any offense on Monday, the security teams recognized them from previous CCTV images, followed them and eventually the police arrested them in the evening. Police investigation is now underway.
The number of burglaries in the first six months of this year has gone down to 6 from 9 during the same period last year, while the detection rate has significantly increased. There is an overall downtrend in criminal cases in DB in the last few years, as a result of more effective cooperation between the police, the residents, the security company and City Management. As owner representatives, we believe however that one crime is one crime too many. We will continue with our zero tolerance for crime, in the direction of a better DB for all of us.
