Discovery College student wins global competition

A Discovery College student's artwork has gone global after winning a prestigious international competition.

Year 12 student Susan Park entered the International Baccalaureate magazine competition to have poster artwork featured on the cover of the IB World September issue.

The 15-year-old said she was shocked she won the competition, given it was open to students from around the world.

The vibrant image was done in an illustrative style with heavy use of cross-hatching and depicts what an IB classroom would look like in 2030.

Susan, a Tung Chung resident, said while she did not think there would much change in the general environment at school, her image depicted the changes she saw in the technology used to teach.

" I do think the one thing that would change is the projection - right now we have interactive whiteboards and by 2030 I think there will be a 3-D projector," she said.

The Year 12/13 diploma course student said DC also provided some inspiration for the image as well - the students in the picture are wearing DC uniforms and the teacher's dress was inspired by dresses worn by her art teacher, DC Art Department Head Fiona Altoft.

Ms Altoft said the school was very proud of Susan's achievement.
