A woman has been arrested after Hong Kong Customs seized 1.3 kg of suspected cocaine, believed to be worth $1.3 milion dollars, at Hong Kong International Airport.
The woman, claiming to be a salesperson, arrived at Hong Kong from Manila on Saturday.
Officials said during Customs clearance, an X-ray check on a suitcase carried by her revealed suspicious images.
Officials said an examination of the suitcase led to the discovery of a slab of suspected cocaine being concealed inside the false compartment of the suitcase. It is believed that drug traffickers tried to use this concealment method to evade Customs detection.
The 32-year-old woman, claiming to be a salesperson, was charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug. She was due to appear at Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Court this week.
Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance, trafficking in a dangerous drug is a serious offence. The maximum penalty is life imprisonment and a fine of $5 million.
